CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (NewsFirst) -A Kennett man is in jail after police responded to a call regarding a weapons violation in the 400-Block of Sheridan Drive of Cape Girardeau.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department reported receiving a call for a “weapons violation” in the 400-Block of Sheridan Drive, and when they arrived, they encountered a victim who disclosed that an individual, later identified as Shawntario Evans, a 19-year-old resident of Kennett, had been attempting to gain entry through the back door of the residence. As the victim approached, Evans fled.
Subsequently, officers were dispatched to another incident in the same neighborhood, where they met with another victim in the 400-Block of Sheridan Drive. According to the police department, this victim reported that Evans had forcibly entered their residence through the front door, pointing a firearm and demanding money. Despite the victim’s refusal, Evans quickly left the scene.
Police say the situation took a serious turn when officers responded to a third victim in the 2100-Block of William Street. As per the police department’s report, this victim also stated that Evans had pointed a firearm at them and demanded money. Following the victim’s refusal to comply, Evans fled the area.
The police department says officers managed to locate Shawntario Evans in the 2100-Block of William Street, running through a parking lot. An officer approached Evans and activated emergency lights, prompting him to flee on foot. Police ran after him and eventually arrested him. The press release says a loaded firearm was discovered in his possession.
Shawntario Evans was transported to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, where he was formally charged by the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The charges include a Class B felony for burglary in the first degree, three counts of felony armed criminal action, two counts of Class B felony for attempted robbery in the first degree, and one count of Class E felony for resisting arrest. As a result, Evans is currently being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
