PADUCAH, KY. (NewsFirst) — Two Illinois men were arrested by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office after breaking into two vehicles at the Timber Village Apartments located on New Holt Road. According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, a citizen notified the owners of the vehicles, and they contacted the Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

Prior to the deputies’ arrival, deputies say one suspect left the scene on foot when he was confronted by one of the owners of the vehicles. The other suspect was detained by the deputies in the parking lot area. Deputies patrolled the area attempting to locate the fleeing suspect. The second suspect was located by the deputies walking near the area on New Holt Road, and he was also detained.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that both of the suspects were dropped off in the area to unlawfully gain access to unlocked vehicles looking for money.

“Both of the suspects were placed under arrest, and they were booked in to the McCracken County Jail,” said the press release.

The suspects are identified as Randy Powell, 18 years of age out of Golconda, Illinois and Chanton Lee, 19 years of age out of Elizabethtown, Illinois.

“As a reminder, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office continues to encourage everyone to keep their vehicles locked to avoid incidents like this one. Also, thanks to the McCracken County citizen for being vigilant in reporting the incident,” added the sheriff’s office.
