FRESNO, Calif. (NewsFirst) — Devon Wylie, a former wide receiver who played in the NFL and for Fresno State, has died at 35, his family and former teammates said, according to numerous media outlets.
A family member confirmed Wylie’s death on social media, Fresno’s Action News reported Tuesday. The cause of death was not disclosed.
“There are no words to express the sadness that comes from losing a brother, dear friend and an amazing uncle,” the family member wrote. “Devon had so much love and joy to give.”
Wylie played for Fresno State from 2007 to 2011, catching 98 passes for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round in 2012 and played six games for them that season.
He also played two games for the Tennessee Titans and was on the practice squads of five other NFL teams before joining the Canadian Football League in 2016.
Fresno State’s football program paid tribute to Wylie on X (formerly known as Twitter), saying he was “forever a bulldog.”
“Our thoughts are with the Wylie family during this difficult time,” the post said.
