CHICAGO (NewsFirst) — Since August of 2022 more than 24,000 migrants have arrived in the State of Illinois.  Many of those have been bused to Chicago.

Many of the migrants are from South America, Central America, and Mexico.  Much warmer climates.  This has raised concerns about dangerous weather conditions during the upcoming winter months.  Weather conditions that many migrants may not be accustomed to.

Governor J.B. Pritzer announced Thursday that Illinois will set aside $160 million to help migrants arriving in the state.  In particular, Chicago.

Of that $160 million, the state will set aside $65 million to help people who may otherwise end up on the streets.  The money will be used for sheltering and transportation.

Much of the funding will come from the Illinois Department of Human Services.  The City of Chicago is also spending tens of millions trying to accommodate the new residents.

Temperatures in Chicago, during the winter months, often dip below freezing and occasionally even below zero degrees Fahrenheit.  These temperatures can be dangerous if people are stranded outdoors or do not have proper shelter and clothing.
