CARBONDALE, Ill. (NewsFirst) — Carbondale Police detectives, along with the Illinois State Police, DuQuoin Police Department, and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, have arrested two suspects in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on July 29, 2023, in the 700 block of East Grand Avenue.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, on the night of the incident, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area but found no evidence at the scene. Subsequently, at 2:43 a.m., they received a report from the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale regarding a person arriving in a personal vehicle at the emergency room with non-life threatening injuries resulting from gunshots.

In the ongoing investigation, detectives identified Blake D. Morrison, 18 years old of DuQuoin, IL, as the shooting suspect. With the assistance of the Jackson County State’s Attorney, an arrest warrant was obtained for Morrison, charging him with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.

Additionally, a warrant for Chloe A. McGrew, 19 years old of DuQuoin, IL, was obtained, charging her with Aiding or Concealing a Fugitive.

On Friday, November 17th, Carbondale Police detectives, working in conjunction with law enforcement agencies from across the region, arrested Morrison and McGrew in DuQuoin without incident on the outstanding warrants.

The investigation revealed that the suspects and victim are apparently acquaintances, instead of the situation being a random act of violence. The victim, who was shot, survived the injuries and was hospitalized.

Both Morrison and McGrew are currently held at the Perry County Jail and will eventually be extradited to the Jackson County Jail to face charges. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
