MAYFIELD, Ky. (NewsFirst) — Graves County officials have announced a groundbreaking event for the new Graves County Administrative Building, which will replace the previous courthouse that was destroyed by a tornado in December 2021.

The event is scheduled for Dec. 11 at 2:30 p.m. CST at the site of the previous courthouse, located at 101 East South Street in Mayfield. The ceremony will honor those who lost their lives during the tornado and unveil a rendering of the new building.

Graves County resident Susan Scott Higdon will emcee the event, which will be held rain or shine. Light refreshments will be available.

“We are excited as we begin a new chapter for Graves County and would appreciate everyone in joining us on this historical day,” said Judge Executive Jesse Perry in a media release.

The new administrative building will house county offices and services. Details about the building will be discussed during the event.
