CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — The Carbondale Police Department is hosting its annual Christmas Store and Coats for Kids program to help local families in need.
The program, now in its 23rd year, provides new coats and new toys for children ages 1 to 10 from Carbondale. Donations of new items can be dropped off at the police department and the Civic Center on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. New coats can also be donated at the SIU men’s and women’s basketball games through Dec. 8.
Financial contributions from individuals or groups are also welcome at the police department.
Police Chief Stan Reno said the program aims to make a difference for 150 children in the community during the holiday season.
“The staff and police officers with the department are proud to continue this initiative to help provide for the families of 150 children during the holiday season,” Reno said in a press release.
The Carbondale Police Department thanked all those who are able to partner with them during this charitable time of year.
