ST. LOUIS (News First) — A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier from Moberly, Missouri, has been indicted and stands accused of embezzling mail, according to federal authorities.

Dawn Dowling, 58, was indicted on November 29, facing one felony count of embezzlement of mail by a Postal Service employee. The indictment alleges that Dowling pilfered mail between July 2023 and August 2023, including rebates from the home improvement retailer Menards that were intended for delivery.

In a hearing at U.S. District Court in St. Louis on Tuesday, Dowling entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.

If convicted, Dowling could face a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.

It is essential to note that charges detailed in an indictment are accusations and do not establish proof of guilt. Every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The U.S. Postal Service – Office of Inspector General spearheaded the investigation into the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Ladendorf is handling the prosecution.
