PADUCAH, Ky. (News First) — A McCracken County man lost his life in a single-vehicle collision on Tuesday morning, marking a tragic incident on Benton Road.

At around 8:49 AM, Tuesday, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office says Paducah 911 received an emergency call reporting a collision in the 4000 block of Benton Road. Deputies arrived at the scene to find a passenger car suspended in the air by a chain link fence. Occupants of the vehicle included an adult male operator, identified as 39-year-old Roger Hyatte, and a five-year-old female passenger.

Upon assessment, authorities discovered that Hyatte had incapacitating injuries. He was swiftly transported by Mercy Regional Ambulance to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after the collision. The young female passenger, with non-incapacitating injuries, was also taken to a local hospital by Mercy Regional Ambulance before being airlifted to an out-of-state hospital for further treatment.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Hyatte’s vehicle, heading westbound on Benton Road, veered across the oncoming lane, entered an east-side ditch, ascended an embankment, and eventually came to a halt within a fence. Witnesses suggest that speed played a role in the collision, a factor currently under continued scrutiny by McCracken County detectives.
