FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY (NewsFirst). – The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) recently released its “2023 Long-Term Reliability Assessment,” which evaluates and describes the risks facing America’s electricity supply. The assessment paints a dire picture of the future of grid reliability in Kentucky and across the nation.
Dependable Power First Kentucky issued the following statement:
“NERC’s Latest Long-Term Reliability Assessment is further confirmation that our nation’s power grid is on the verge of a reliability crisis, in part due to the premature retirement of reliable, baseload power plants. Compared to previous years, a growing portion of our state is now at ‘high risk’ of electricity shortfalls during normal peak conditions, putting Kentuckians’ lives and livelihoods in jeopardy. With so many risks to our economy outside of our control, it is imperative that we preserve Kentucky’s legacy as an energy-secure state with common-sense, responsible energy policies. We urge Kentucky policymakers to continue to prioritize this issue and take action to mitigate the risk of future shortages and blackouts.”
