NEWPORT, KENTUCKY (NewsFirst) — Kentucky Lottery officials have announced that a Newport, Kentucky woman has won $50,000.

Christmas is just a little brighter for Tanya Hammonds.

She asked her husband to buy some scratch-off tickets at the store. He accidently bought the wrong kind. This was a mistake that would eventually pay off.

One of the scratch-off tickets was worth $50,000.

Hammonds said that she scratched off the barcode before actually scratching off the ticket. The machine told her she had a winning ticket worth $50,000.

At first, she thought the machine was broken, but quickly realized she was a winner.

Hammond said she was so excited that she could hardly hold the ticket in her hand.

She chose the quick pay and walked away with $35,750.00.
