Date: December 29, 2023

On December 26, 2023, just after 9:00 p.m., deputies were dispatched to I-24 near the 28-mile marker, just before the Tennessee River bridge, following reports of a male walking in the westbound lane. A second call indicated that the male was on the bridge, walking east in the westbound lane. Upon arrival, deputies found a male on the shoulder of the fast lane, lying on the roadway near the top of the Tennessee River bridge. Despite immediate efforts, the male vanished before a thorough search could be conducted. Subsequent search and rescue missions on the Tennessee River and surrounding land have been unsuccessful.

The missing individual has been tentatively identified as Wesley Augustino, 41 years old, of Gilbertsville, KY. Wesley was last seen by friends in the area of Gilbertsville Hwy near the I-24 underpass before going missing. He was wearing a red t-shirt, dark sweatpants, and was barefoot. Wesley is approximately 6’4” tall and weighs around 175 lbs. A picture of Wesley is provided below.
