GRAND TOWER, ILLINOIS (NewsFirst) —

On Wednesday January 10th 2024 at approximately 10:18 pm, the Grand Tower Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a white Ford F150 in the area of Brunkhorst Avenue and 20th Street. The truck had registration that expired in 2021 and was seen leaving a known residence for narcotics.

After the officer activated his emergency lights, the vehicle continued to drive and eventually pulled over on 3rd Avenue. When the officer walked up to the truck and knocked on the back window the truck took off at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the vehicle for approximately 15 minutes all over Grand Tower where the vehicle drove extremely recklessly, speeding, disobeying traffic signs and crossing over into the other lane. The truck ran off the road numerous times and eventually turned around in the middle of the road and came straight at the officer attempting to hit his patrol vehicle.

Eventually the truck went off into a field and drove down the old park road where it ended up striking a large boulder and crashed.

When Grand Tower Police and Jackson County Sheriffs Deputies located the vehicle a female exited through the passenger area and advised the male had taken off running towards the campground.

The male was later located at the same residence he was at previously on Wills Drive. The male was identified as Daniel E. Sherman of Murphysboro. When a search of Daniels person was conducted a substantial amount of crystal like substance which was field tested positive for methamphetamine was located in his jeans pockets.

A search of the truck also resulted in glass pipes with white residue which field tested positive for methamphetamine, as well as open alcohol bottles.

As a result of the investigation Sherman was arrested and charged with the following
