METROPOLIS, ILLINOIS (NewsFirst) — At approximately 5:57 PM Friday, Metropolis Fire Department was called out for a house fire at East 6th Street.
Upon arriving on the scene, the fire department discovered smoke pouring out of the attic.
At 6:30 PM the Brookport Fire Department was requested for mutual aid. Followed by the Massac County Fire Protection District.
Eventually the Joppa Fire Department was requested for station cover and then later requested on the scene of the fire.
Metropolis Police Department and Massac County Emergency Management Services provided assistance as well.
As of 10:20 PM, all units were still on the scene battling a stubborn structure fire in freezing temperatures.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A Facebook group posted the following information concerning the fire.
A grandmother and granddaughter lost their home to a fire last night.
The home was a total loss.

Baby J – Size 5T clothes & size 10 shoes.
Please do not take bags of clothing to the drop off.
Take only clean, folded, and useable clothing in the sizes listed above.
The clothes may be dropped off with Kathy Duncan at Super Thrifty. Located at 1209 W 10th Street in Metropolis.
