On January 11, 2024, McCracken County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of abandoned puppies. Deputy Miller, the MCSO’s animal cruelty investigator, located nine puppies that were placed in a plastic tote next to a creek on the southside of Paducah. This was just prior to inclement and life-threatening weather entered our region.
During the investigation, it was determined that the puppies were approximately six weeks old at the time. They were also flea ridden and covered in blood.
Through the course of the investigation, Deputy Miller obtained an arrest warrant for Joanna Mitchell of Paducah, KY. Mitchell was arrested by the Paducah Police Department pursuant to that warrant on the morning of January 23, 2024.
Mitchell, 43 years old, was charged with nine (9) counts of Cruelty to Animals 2nd Degree and lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
A photograph of Mitchell may be obtained from the McCracken County Jail.
