Additional repairs required on RR Overpass deck

PADUCAH, Ky. (January 29, 2024)  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is extending a closure of KY 121 in northwestern Graves County through Thursday, February 1, 2024.

KY 121 closed to all traffic at mile point 18.4 this morning to allow concrete repairs on the deck of the Canadian National Railroad Overpass.  This closure is along KY 121 between KY 1213 and KY 339.

The closure was originally expected to last two days.  However, as they started work, bridge engineers concluded that the overpass required more extensive deck repairs that would extend the length of the closure.

KY 121 closed at this site at 8 a.m., CST, today.  The roadway is now expected to remain closed until about 4 p.m., CST, on Thursday.

There is no marked detour.  Passenger vehicles may detour via KY 339 and KY 1213.  Trucks should detour via KY 80 and KY 339 due to the low overpass (14 ft.) on KY 1213.

The KYTC District 1 Bridge Crew now plans to spend most of today and Tuesday removing damaged concrete on the CNRR Overpass deck.  They will then pour new concrete on Wednesday.  Due to the time required for the concrete to properly cure, KY 121 is likely to remain closed at this site until late Thursday afternoon.

KYTC District 1 will attempt to provide timely notice should the roadway reopen to traffic earlier than expected.
