CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS (NewsFirst) — On February 6, 2024 at 4:58 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 1400 block of West Main Street for a report of a man walking in the parking lot with a handgun.

Officers found the man, later identified as Derrico D. Quinn, age 34 of Memphis, TN., holding a handgun as described. Officers ordered Quinn to drop the firearm. Quinn complied and was taken into custody without incident.

The firearm was later found to have been reported stolen from Missouri. Quinn was charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm by a Felon, Possession of Stolen Firearm, and Unlawful Use of Weapon.

He was transported to the Jackson County Jail. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
