In a thrilling display of skill and determination, athletes from various schools participated in the KHSAA Region 1 tournament on Saturday, delivering outstanding performances and securing their spots in the upcoming state tournament.
DJ Wilson, Uriah Virzi, Jack James, and Jimmy Mooney emerged as regional champions, clinching first place in their respective weight classes. Following closely behind, Case Simmons, Jayven Williams, Amari Williams, Jayden Morris, and Ben Hall showcased their talent by securing second place finishes. Ethan O’Malley and Hank James displayed commendable performances, earning third place in their categories.
Jaylin Bellamy demonstrated his prowess by claiming fourth place, while DeWayne Wills rounded off the impressive showing by finishing in fifth place.
Collectively, the team amassed 269 points, securing a commendable second place overall. Their outstanding performances have earned them the opportunity to compete in the state tournament scheduled for this Thursday and Friday in Lexington.
With the top four placers qualifying for the state tournament, these athletes are set to showcase their skills on a bigger stage, representing their schools and communities with pride.
