MT VERNON, ILLINOIS (NewsFirst) — Felony Trespassing Arrest by JCSO!

On February 19th at about 1:41pm, Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, assisted by officers of the Mt. Vernon Police Department, responded to a report of trespassing in progress, with possibly a gun involved that had been discharged, in the 11000 block of E. Stone Rd Mt. Vernon, IL. Upon arrival, officers detained 44-year-old Dewayne E. Corbett of Mt. Vernon, IL, who was still on scene, and was determined to be the offender. It was confirmed a handgun was fired, by one of the victims, while the offender was attempting to force his way into the dwelling, after damaging the residence exterior. Corbett received only very minor wounds and refused medical treatment.

Corbett was arrested for felony trespassing and transported to the Jefferson County Justice Center. Further investigation revealed Corbett had tried entry to at least 2 other dwellings, before his attempted forced entry on E. Stone Rd. He was incarcerated in the jail to await his pretrial detention hearing. He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
