CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS (NewsFirst) — On February 21, 2024 at 12:07 a.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 900 block of East Park Street for a report of a battery in progress. 

Officers found a victim with multiple stab wounds and began rendering aid. The victim was transported to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and was treated for serious injuries. Officers learned that the suspect, Cody W. Simon, 21 of Carbondale, stabbed the victim during a personal dispute and left the area prior to officers arriving. 

At 11:13 a.m., detectives located Simon at a residence in the 700 block of South Wall Street and arrested him without incident. Simon is charged with Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. Simon was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. The investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing.
