3 ton load limit to remain in place pending inspection

PADUCAH, Ky. (February 23, 2024)  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has reopened a section of KY 58 at the Obion Creek Bridge in Hickman County.

KY 58 had been closed since February 6, to allow structural repairs to the Obion Creek Bridge at the 4.92 mile marker.  A 3 ton load limit will temporarily remain in place until the repairs can be inspected and a new load rating calculated.

Reopening the bridge along KY 58 about halfway between Clinton and Columbus restores a direct transportation connection.  Mild temperatures with minimal rainfall allowed the contractor to complete the work about a week ahead of schedule.

The Obion Creek Bridge has a 30 ft. pony truss main span that opened to traffic in 1929.  It was previously posted with a 20-ton load limit before being lowered to 3-tons in January when inspectors found damage to several beams on the main span.  The repairs are expected to allow the load limit to be increased.

Approximately 575 vehicles travel this section of KY 58 in an average day.
