Arrest after scuffle with Sheriff’s Deputy

This afternoon at approximately 4:20pm, Dep. Peyton Jackson stopped a vehicle after erratic driving and a computer check revealed that owner of the vehicle had a suspended operators license, on US Hwy 45 about 2 miles north of Mayfield.

A strong odor of Marijuana was detected by the deputy and when the driver was asked to exit the vehicle, the driver refused, and attempted to flee by placing the vehicle in gear.

A struggle ensued on the side of the busy highway and the driver had to be tased to gain control and to take the driver into custody. During the struggle, an unknown motorist stopped to check on the deputy offering assistance.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and where quantities of crystal Methamphetmine was seized, over an approx pound of processed Marijuana, and other related items.

The driver was identified as being 39 year old Daniel J. Shannon of Paducah, Ky.

He was charged with offenses including Assault on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Trafficking in over 8 Ounces of Marijuana, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, DUI, and other related charges.

He was later transported to an out of county jail facility.

We would also like to say Thank You to the motorist that witnessed the incident and stopped to check on our deputy.
