PADUCAH, KY (News First) – On March 5, 2024, at 9:45 P.M., the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 9-mile marker of Interstate 24 regarding a head-on collision.

According to the investigation, a 2008 Cadillac CTS, driven by Tri Nguyen (20) of Paducah, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the interstate without headlights.

The Cadillac collided head-on with a 2024 Freightliner, operated by Carol Gordon (64) of McDonough, Georgia, with Augustine Idemudia (37) of Cypress, Texas, as a passenger.

Mr. Nguyen was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passengers of the Freightliner were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Assistance at the scene was provided by Mercy Regional Ambulance, Reidland-Farley Fire Department, McCracken County DES, Speedy’s Towing, and McCracken County Coroner Amanda Melton.

The MCSO urges the community to keep the Nguyen family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

PADUCAH, KY – The westbound lanes of Interstate 24 were completely shut down due to a collision at the 10-mile marker late last night. The closure lasted for over 6 hours. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and those traveling from the 16-mile marker area were detoured off at Exit 11. The crash involved 3-4 passenger vehicles and at least one commercial vehicles. McCracken County Emergency Management assisted the Sheriff’s Department with traffic control.

Update: Westbound lanes reopened around 3:30 a.m., although the crash remains under investigation.
