PADUCAH, KENTUCKY (NewsFirst) — Location: 1400 block of Atkins Street, Paducah, KY

Suspect(s): Leroy Johnson, 42, of the 1400 block of Atkins Street, arrested on charges of attempted murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

A man is jailed after he fired a shot at another man during an argument Thursday night.

Police were called at 10 p.m. Thursday to H.C. Mathis Drive and North 14th Street to a report of shots fired. A man told officers he was walking on Atkins Avenue when a white SUV almost hit him. The man said the SUV pulled into a driveway, and he and the driver – later identified as Leroy Johnson – got into an argument. He said Johnson went into the house, returned with a black handgun and fired a shot at him.

Officers went to the house to talk with Johnson and found a spent shell casing on the front porch. Johnson was found inside the home, and matched the description given by the victim.

A search warrant was obtained for Johnson’s house, and officers found a black handgun. A computer check revealed Johnson has multiple drug-related felony convictions, and therefore is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Johnson was arrested on the above-listed charges and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
