Franklin County, Illinois (NewsFirst) — Scam Alert
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn the public of a scam that has affected numerous Franklin County residents.
Be cautious of any letter claiming to be from an attorney or law office, in particular the Law Office of Jim Braiden. The letter will claim that a distant relative has passed away and the relatives life insurance has not been claimed. The letter promises that there are large sums of money to be claimed.
Once you make contact with the law office, the call taker will ask you to provide very specific personal information to include your banking information. If you receive a letter similar to this, please do not contact the “law office” and do not provide personal information.
