Do not stop along roadways or bridges to view the solar eclipse. Parking on the shoulder of the roadway, except in an emergency, is prohibited. This allows first responders access to emergency scenes. Arrive to your chosen viewing location early and park in a safe location away from the roadways. Consider heading over to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity website to help you plan your trip: https://www.enjoyillinois.com/…/your-2024-illinois…/. For additional safety tips related to the eclipse, you can visit the Illinois Emergency Management Agency‘s website: https://ready.illinois.gov/hazards/solar-eclipse-safety.html
As always, stay tuned to our page, and the Illinois Department of Transportation page in the coming weeks for more important safety tips to consider leading into and during the 2024 solar eclipse.
