Madisonville, Kentucky (NewsFirst) — A tragic incident has occurred involving the passing of an eight-year-old boy who consumed strawberries from a school fundraiser.
The Madisonville Police Department is currently investigating the incident, which occurred on Friday after the boy reportedly ate the strawberries.
While an autopsy is pending, samples of the strawberries have been sent to a State laboratory for testing to determine the cause of the tragedy.
Although preliminary findings from the Hopkins County Medical Examiner, Dr. Christopher Kiefer, suggest that the incident may have been the result of an isolated allergic reaction, caution is advised regarding strawberries from the fundraiser organized by the athletic departments at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School and Hopkins County Central High School until further testing is completed.
It is important to note that social media speculation suggesting that the strawberries were laced with narcotics is unfounded, as confirmed by the Madisonville Police.
At this time, the name of the victim has not been released, and our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.
