PADUCAH, KY (March 22, 2024) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet anticipates ongoing work zone construction and long-term maintenance activities at the following locations will impact traffic during the week of March 24-30.  More detailed information on these work zones with maps can be found on our Facebook page listed below.

I-24 Tennessee River Bridge at 29mm
There are now two 11 ft. travel lanes for both eastbound and westbound traffic in the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge work zone at the 29mm. There is an 8 ft.-6 in. max load width and 13 ft- 6 in. max height restriction, a 55 MPH speed limit, enhanced enforcement, double fines, and a concrete barrier wall.  There is interactive monitoring to alert motorists to traffic backups – Watch message boards on approach.  During peak travel, local commuters should consider a self-detour via U.S. 62 and KY 453. Some occasional lane restrictions will be required at night and on weekends as the construction season progresses.  Target for completion of this bridge rehab project is Dec 1, 2024.

Purchase Parkway/KY 307 Fulton Exit 2 Extended Ramp Closures
All ramps at the Purchase Parkway/KY 307 Fulton Exit 2 are closed for about 6 weeks for reconstruction. There is no Purchase Parkway access to or from KY 307 at Exit 2 during this work.  The ramps have a target reopening date of April 26, 2024. 

Purchase Parkway Extended Work Zone 0 to 21mm
Construction activity along the work zone between the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line at Fulton and the U.S. 45/KY 80-Bypass Mayfield Exit 21 interchange in Mayfield is ramping up as weather allows.  As a reminder, the work zone includes a 13 ft maximum load width restriction at mile point 1.3 near Fulton. The restriction on the Canadian National Railroad Overpass is for both northbound and southbound traffic and extends the entire 175 ft. length of the bridge deck.  The 13 ft. maximum load width restriction is expected to remain in place until March 29.  On completion late this year, Interstate 69 will be extended along the final 21 miles of the existing parkway to the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line. The target completion date for all of the upgrades is December 15, 2024.

I-24 Welcome Center Closed at KY-TN State Line
The Christian County Welcome Center along I-24 Westbound near the 92mm at the KY-TN State Line is temporarily closed for drain line repair.  Porta-potties will be stationed along the rear sidewalks, designated exclusively for large truck parking ONLY; no passenger vehicles are permitted.  Motorists should plan their travel accordingly and use alternative rest stops during this period.I-24

KY 139/Jefferson St in Cadiz on Wednesday, March 27 (NEW)
Pennyrile Electric plans a daytime work zone lane restriction on KY 139/Jefferson Street in Downtown Cadiz on Wednesday, March 27, to allow a critical utility pole that carries multiple power and communications lines to be replaced. This is along KY 139/Jefferson Street at mile point 16.95 near the Monroe Street intersection at the rear of the Trigg County Court House.  Motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers from 7 a.m., CDT, to 4 p.m., Wednesday. Significant delays are possible. Commercial trucks should avoid this work zone.

KY 123 Utility Work Zone in Clinton (UPDATE)
Watch for daytime closures along KY 123/East Clay Street in Clinton.  A contractor for the City is initially working in the 400 Block of East Clay Street near the Barclay Street intersection to prepare for the installation of a new water main.  Motorists should be alert for one-lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers. This work zone will be active during daylight hours anytime weather allows for the next several months.

KY 295 Closed at Lyon-Crittenden County Line
KY 295 is closed at Lyon County mile point 9.419 at the Livingston Creek Bridge between Eddyville and Dycusburg after a detailed inspection identified structural issues on the bridge. The bridge is closed until further notice while engineers determine the extent of needed repairs. This is along KY 295 at Crittenden County, mile point 0.0 between Joe Peek Road in Lyon County and Millie Peek Road in Crittenden County. Signage and barricades are posted miles ahead of the bridge to restrict travel.  Approximately 675 vehicles a day travel this section of KY 295 on average.

KY 135/Carrsville Rd in Livingston County (Ongoing)
KY 135/Carrsville Road in Livingston County is closed at mile point 3.31 near the Hampton community to allow the construction of a new bridge over a branch of Bayou Creek about 1/2 mile north of the KY 838/Hampton Road intersection. The target completion date is June 1, 2024.

KY 525/New Hope Rd in Trigg County (Ongoing)
KY 525/New Hope Road in southern Trigg County is closed at mile point 4.397 to allow construction of a new bridge over Potts Creek between Prather Road and Jack Humphries Road.  This is just over a mile north of the KY 1253/Hardy Road intersection.  There is no marked detour.  The target completion date is May 31.

KY 2536/Tom Lane Rd Extended Closure in Marshall County (Ongoing)
KY 3526/Tom Lane Road is closed at mile point 0.6 for reconstruction of the West Fork Clarks River Bridge between the Marshall-Graves County Line and Houser Road.  The roadway at this site will remain closed for about 60 days.  There will be no marked detour.  The target completion date is April 15.

KY 3061 Closed at 3.6mm in Hickman County (Ongoing)
KY 3061 is Closed at 3.6mm in Hickman County due to damage at the Brush Creek Branch Culvert between Whitlock Road and Brush Creek Road.  This is just over a mile north of the KY 58 intersection. New culvert pipes have been ordered.  Work is expected to start when they are delivered to the site.  Closure duration is unknown at this time. There is no marked detour.

U.S. 641-Business/North 4th Street Closure in Murray (Ongoing)
U.S. 641-Business/North 4th Street in Murray is closed north of KY 94/East Main Street for curb, gutter, and concrete pavement work.  The contractor is moving northward along U.S. 641-Business about a block at a time until work is completed between Main Street and Chestnut.  Access will be maintained for businesses.  Motorists may self-detour via side streets. Due to weather delays, the target completion is extended to April 1, 2024.

KY 408 Extended Closure East of Benton in Marshall County (Ongoing)
KY 408/Egners Ferry Road is closed immediately east of Benton.  The project between KY 1462/Benton-Birmingham Road and KY 1897/Olive-Hamlet Road includes construction of 4 bridges over Johns River and Clarks River.  A marked detour via U.S. 68 and KY 1462/Benton-Birmingham Road adds 2.2 miles or about 4 minutes of travel time. The target completion date is August 15, 2025.

KY 780 in Hickman County Closed at Bayou de Chien Bridge
KY 780 is closed at mile point 3.818 due to substructure deterioration on the Bayou de Chien Bridge between U.S. 51 and Martin Road.  This is on the leg of KY 780 West of U.S. 51.  The bridge will remain closed until engineers can develop a repair plan.  Motorists may self-detour via the north end of KY 780 to U.S. 51/South Washington Street at the edge of Clinton.

KY 945 Closed at Gilbert Creek Culvert in Graves County
KY 945 remains closed at the 1.14mm in Graves County at the Gilbert Creek Culvert due to erosion damage from flash flooding in July.  KYTC engineers are working on plans to replace the damaged concrete culvert with a new bridge.  There is no start date at this time.

U.S. 60/U.S. 62 Mississippi River Bridge Between IL & MO CLOSED
The U.S. 60/U.S. 62 Mississippi River Bridge that connects Illinois and Missouri near Cairo is closed until Oct. 2024, for a maintenance and repair project.  For vehicles crossing the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge from Kentucky into Illinois traveling into Missouri, this creates about a 4 mile (5 min.) detour via U.S. 51 through Cairo to take I-57 South to cross the I-57 Mississippi River Bridge into Missouri.  There is a marked detour.  You can get IDOT info at GettingAroundIllinois.com.

Total Solar Eclipse Crosses 8 KY Counties April 8
Is the 2024 Solar Eclipse on your bucket list? Make your plan now! The total eclipse will clip parts of Fulton, Hickman, and Carlisle counties before rolling across Ballard, McCracken, Livingston, Crittenden, Union, and Henderson counties along the Ohio River on April 8.
