LEXINGTON (News First) — In a thrilling showdown at Rupp Arena on Saturday night, Lyon County’s Mr. Basketball, Travis Perry, led his team to victory, securing the state high school basketball championship with a 67-58 win over Harlan County.
Perry’s standout performance included pouring in 27 points in his final high school game. However, it was the collective effort of his teammates Jack Reddick (16 points) and Brady Shoulders (15 points) that sealed the victory.
The Lyons’ robust defense once again proved pivotal, stifling Harlan County’s offensive output. Despite Trent Noah scoring the 4th-highest 4-game total in tournament history, Lyon County held him to 17 points in the final. Maddox Huff led Harlan County (34-5) with 22 points.
Perry’s outstanding performance earned him the title of state tournament MVP, capping off his high school career with a record-setting 5,481 points, the highest in the state’s history.
Lyon County concludes their championship season with an impressive 36-3 record. Lyon County took down number 1 ranked team Great Crossing 58-49 semifinal game giving them their first loss to a Kentucky school this season.
