Drug and Weapon Arrest
On Friday, March 29th, at about 6pm a Deputy was investigating a theft of anhydrous ammonia occurring earlier the same day in the 15600 block of E. Baseline Rd Texico, IL. The initial investigation led the Deputy to 17413 E. Divide Rd Texico, IL, where evidence of the theft was observed, the Mt. Vernon Police Department / Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit was contacted, and a search warrant for the residence was obtained.
The warrant was served on the residence, more evidence was located, and the primary resident, 41-year-old Eric A. Powell was arrested on the following charges: Armed Violence, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Illegal Transportation of Anhydrous Ammonia, Use of Property (Methamphetamine), Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession Controlled Substance, and Tamper Anhydrous Ammonia Un-Authorized Container.
A second subject in the residence, 43-year-old Jeffrey J Woods of Centralia, IL , was arrested for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and a Marion County warrant for Failure to Appear.
Both Powell and Woods were transported to the Jefferson County Jail and incarcerated until their detention hearing. Both are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
