MAYFIELD, KY (News First) – Saturday, April 13, at approximately 11:39 a.m., Mayfield police officers responded to the area of US Highway 45 North and Wayne Drive regarding a vehicle collision involving injuries. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicles disabled due to the severity of the collision, prompting the closure of the entire southbound lane of US Highway 45 while towing services responded to remove the disabled vehicles.

Following the investigation, it was determined that James Poat, 85, of Mayfield, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck with his wife, Patsy Poat, 82, as the front passenger. Poat was on Wayne Drive, initiating a left-hand turn onto US Highway 45 when colliding with a northbound vehicle. The other vehicle involved was identified as a 2019 GMC Yukon operated by Neal Mathis, 65, of Melber. Karen Mathis, 60, was a passenger in the Yukon.

All occupants involved were transported by Mayfield EMS to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for treatment of suspected minor injuries. The Mayfield Police Department received assistance from the Graves County Sheriff’s Department.
