The perpetrator, utilizing phone number “spoofing” to mimic the Paducah Police Department, contacted a local resident, falsely claiming owed funds to the department. They demanded a significant sum and suggested payment via gift cards or bitcoin.
Paducah Police stress they never solicit money over the phone or advocate for unconventional payment methods. Stay alert and report suspicious activity promptly.
