PADUCAH, KY (April 19, 2024) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet anticipates ongoing work zone construction and long-term maintenance activities at the following locations will impact traffic during the week of April 21-27.  More detailed information on these work zones (including maps) can be found on our Facebook page listed below. 

I-24 Westbound Overnight Closures at 29mm Monday & Tuesday (NEW)
I-24 westbound will be closed overnight at the 29mm on Monday and Tuesday, April 22 & 23, from 7 p.m., CDT, to 7 a.m., to allow pavement repairs in the Tennessee River Bridge work zone.  Westbound traffic will be detoured at the KY 453 Grand Rivers Exit 31 to take KY 453 South to U.S. 62 West to return to I-24 westbound via U.S. 62 Calvert City Exit 27.  When the roadway reopens at 7 a.m., Tuesday, I-24 westbound traffic will be restricted to one lane at this site.  Tuesday, I-24 westbound will again close overnight to complete the repair. Both westbound lanes of I-24 are expected to reopen Wednesday.  This work should not impact eastbound I-24 traffic.

I-24 Tennessee River Bridge at 29mm (Ongoing)
This work zone includes a traffic shift with two-11 ft. travel lanes for both eastbound and westbound traffic on the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge at the 29mm. There is an 8 ft.-6 in. max load width and 13 ft- 6 in. max height restriction, a 55 MPH speed limit, enhanced enforcement, double fines, and a concrete barrier wall.  During peak travel, local commuters should consider a self-detour via U.S. 62 and KY 453 between Exit 27 and Exit 31. Some occasional lane restrictions will be required at night and on weekends as the construction season progresses.  Target for completion of this bridge rehab project is Dec 1, 2024.

I-24 Work Zone in Trigg County
Work zone lane restrictions are up for eastbound traffic on I-24 from the 67 to 64mm in Trigg County for concrete pavement repairs.  All traffic is initially moved to the left-hand or passing lane.  Once work is completed on the eastbound lanes, the contractor will move to the westbound lanes.

U.S. 51 Work Zone With 8.6 ft. Max Width in Carlisle Co. on Tuesday
A work zone lane and 8.5 ft. load width restriction along U.S. 51 in southern Carlisle County on Tuesday at mile point 2.3 is to allow erosion mitigation work. This is a mile north of Arlington between KY 877 and the intersection with Jennings Road/Trevathan Road.  This restriction is in place from 8 a.m., CDT, to about 2:30 p.m., weather permitting.

U.S. 62 Work Zone 8 ft. Max Width on Cumberland River Bridge Wednesday
Be alert for a work zone lane and 8 ft. load width restriction on the U.S. 62 Cumberland River “Eureka Highway” Bridge, Wednesday, at 2.85mm in Lake City to allow a detailed inspection of the U.S. 62 Cumberland River Bridge at the Livingston-Lyon County Line. The 8 ft. width restriction is to allow the use of an Under Bridge Inspection Vehicle (UBIV) from 8 a.m., CDT, to 3 p.m., Wednesday.

U.S. 68 Maintenance Paving in NW Marshall County This Week
A work zone for maintenance paving along U.S. 68 in northwestern Marshall County runs from the Marshall-McCracken County line to mile point 9.3 at the I-69 Draffenville interchange. The contractor will address pavement issues with intermittent paving at various locations.  A future Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) is being developed for this section of U.S. 68.

U.S 45 at 7.1mm in Lone Oak Area of McCracken County
Watch for a work zone to resume along U.S. 45/Lone Oak Road in the Lone Oak area of McCracken County this week at mile point 7.141 at the new intersection with KY 1286/North Friendship Road and Lakeview Drive to allow a sub-contractor to install a new traffic signal. Watch for traffic restrictions between 8 a.m., and 2 p.m., starting Tuesday.  This work will prohibit commercial trucks and vehicles pulling trailers over 20 ft. in length from traveling KY 1286/North Friendship Road between U.S. 45/Lone Oak Road and U.S. 62/Blandville Road.

U.S 68-Business at Lakota Drive in Cadiz
A temporary ALL-Way Stop will be in place on U.S. 68-Business/Main Street at Lakota Drive in Cadiz Monday through Wednesday to allow the installation of new traffic signal. The intersection will function as an All-Way Stop starting at 8:30 a.m., CDT, on Monday, until work is completed.  Be alert for bucket trucks working in and around the intersection.

KY 339 Paving in NW Graves County
Asphalt paving along a section of KY 339 in northern Graves County runs from near the KY 121 intersection, extending about 5 miles to the 34-mile marker near the South Branch Brush Creek Bridge.  Motorists should be alert for one-lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers through about Friday, April 26.

KY 2603/Vanzora Rd at Soldier Creek Bridge in Marshall County (NEW)
Construction of a new Soldier Creek Bridge along KY 2603/Vanzora Road at .17mm  in Marshall County is expected to start April 25.  The bridge has been closed since March 6, 2023, when inspectors found deterioration of the bridge substructure.  Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contactor on this $1,389,024 project.  The target completion date is October 1, 2024.

Purchase Parkway/KY 307 Fulton Exit 2 Extended Ramp Closures
All ramps at the Purchase Parkway/KY 307 Fulton Exit 2 are closed for about 6 weeks for reconstruction. There is no Purchase Parkway access to or from KY 307 at Exit 2 during this work.  The ramps have a target reopening date of April 26, 2024. 

High-Friction Coating Installation in McCracken County (NEW)
Night work zones for installation of high-friction pavement coating are planned at a half-dozen locations in McCracken County. This work is being completed from 7 p.m., to 6 a.m., to reduce traffic disruptions. Check our Facebook page for specific work locations. 

Purchase Parkway Extended Work Zone 0 to 21mm
This work zone runs from the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line at Fulton and the U.S. 45/KY 80-Bypass Mayfield Exit 21 interchange in Mayfield.  The work zone includes a 13 ft. maximum load width restriction at mile point 1.3 near Fulton. The 13 ft. maximum load width restriction is expected to remain in place until March 29.  On completion late this year, Interstate 69 will be extended along the final 21 miles of the existing parkway. The target completion date for all of the upgrades is December 15, 2024.

I-24 Welcome Center Closed at KY-TN State Line
The Christian County Welcome Center along I-24 Westbound near the 92mm at the KY-TN State Line is temporarily closed for drain line repair.  Porta-potties will be stationed along the rear sidewalks, designated exclusively for large truck parking ONLY; no passenger vehicles are permitted.  Motorists should plan their travel accordingly and use alternative rest stops during this period.I-24

KY 1485/Bellville Rd Closed in Southern Graves County
KY 1485/Bellville Road in Graves County is closed at the Terrapin Creek Bridge near the 2 mile marker – about two miles north of the KY-TN State Line.  An inspection team found deterioration of the bridge substructure. The bridge is closed to all traffic until further notice.  There is no marked detour.  KY 1485/Bellville Road connects to Boydsville Road at the state line. Engineers will determine if the bridge can be repaired.

KY 123 Utility Work Zone in Clinton
Utility work continues along KY 123/East Clay Street in Clinton.  A contractor for the City is working in the 400 Block of East Clay Street near the Barclay Street intersection to prepare for the installation of a new water main.  Work to install new sidewalks is expected to start in a few weeks.  Some closures will be associated with the concrete work.

KY 295 Closed at Lyon-Crittenden County Line
KY 295 is closed at Lyon County mile point 9.419 at the Livingston Creek Bridge between Eddyville and Dycusburg after a detailed inspection identified structural issues on the bridge. The bridge is closed until further notice while engineers determine the extent of needed repairs. This is along KY 295 at Crittenden County, mile point 0.0 between Joe Peek Road in Lyon County and Millie Peek Road in Crittenden County. Signs and barricades are posted.

KY 135/Carrsville Rd in Livingston County
KY 135/Carrsville Road in Livingston County is closed at mile point 3.31 near the Hampton community to allow the construction of a new bridge over a branch of Bayou Creek about 1/2 mile north of the KY 838/Hampton Road intersection. The target completion date is June 1, 2024.

KY 525/New Hope Rd in Trigg County
KY 525/New Hope Road in southern Trigg County is closed at mile point 4.397 to allow construction of a new bridge over Potts Creek between Prather Road and Jack Humphries Road.  This is just over a mile north of the KY 1253/Hardy Road intersection.  There is no marked detour.  The target completion date is May 31.

KY 2536/Tom Lane Rd Extended Closure in Marshall County (UPDATE)
KY 3526/Tom Lane Road is closed at mile point 0.6 for reconstruction of the West Fork Clarks River Bridge between the Marshall-Graves County Line and Houser Road. There is no marked detour.  The bridge is awaiting paving of approaches and guardrail installation as soon as weather permits.

U.S. 641-Business/North 4th Street in Murray
U.S. 641-Business/North 4th Street in Murray is closed north of KY 94/East Main Street for curb, gutter, and concrete pavement work.  The contractor is moving northward along U.S. 641-Business about a block at a time until work is completed between Main Street and Chestnut.  Access will be maintained for businesses.  Motorists may self-detour via side streets. Due to weather delays, the target completion is extended to May 15, 2024.

KY 408 Extended Closure East of Benton in Marshall County (Ongoing)
KY 408/Egners Ferry Road is closed immediately east of Benton.  The project between KY 1462/Benton-Birmingham Road and KY 1897/Olive-Hamlet Road includes construction of 4 bridges over Johns River and Clarks River.  A marked detour via U.S. 68 and KY 1462/Benton-Birmingham Road adds 2.2 miles or about 4 minutes of travel time. The target completion date is August 15, 2025.

KY 780 in Hickman County Closed at Bayou de Chien Bridge
KY 780 is closed at mile point 3.818 due to substructure deterioration on the Bayou de Chien Bridge between U.S. 51 and Martin Road.  This is on the leg of KY 780 West of U.S. 51.  The bridge will remain closed until engineers can develop a repair plan.  Motorists may self-detour via the north end of KY 780 to U.S. 51/South Washington Street at the edge of Clinton.

KY 945 Closed at Gilbert Creek Culvert in Graves County
KY 945 remains closed at the 1.14mm in Graves County at the Gilbert Creek Culvert due to erosion damage from flash flooding in July.  KYTC engineers are working on plans to replace the damaged concrete culvert with a new bridge.  Demolition of the existing culvert is expected to start soon.

U.S. 60/U.S. 62 Mississippi River Bridge Between IL & MO CLOSED
The U.S. 60/U.S. 62 Mississippi River Bridge that connects Illinois and Missouri near Cairo is closed until Oct. 2024, for a maintenance and repair project.  For vehicles crossing the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge from Kentucky into Illinois traveling into Missouri, this creates about a 4 mile (5 min.) detour via U.S. 51 through Cairo to take I-57 South to cross the I-57 Mississippi River Bridge into Missouri.  There is a marked detour.  You can get IDOT info at GettingAroundIllinois.com.
