PADUCAH, Ky. (News First) – Interstate 24 eastbound continues to be restricted to one lane near the 62 mile marker in Trigg County due to damage to the KY 124/Cerulean Road Overpass.
KYTC personnel received reports this morning about concrete along I-24 at the overpass. On arrival, bridge inspectors found evidence steel beams that support the overpass had been struck recently by a passing truck. As a result of the impact, and vibrations from vehicles crossing the overpass on KY 124, some non-structural pieces of concrete about the size of a brick had fallen into the roadway.
As a precaution, eastbound traffic on I-24 continues to be restricted to one lane with all traffic moved to the left-hand or passing lane to allow an inspection of the bridge structure. Bridge inspectors and engineers have checked the bridge and used a man-lift to remove the concrete edging that was loosened by the truck impact.
KY 124/Cerulean Road has reopened at the overpass.
Duration of the eastbound lane restriction on I-24 has been extended 90 minutes to approximately 5 p.m., CDT.
