On July 17, 2024 at approximately 5:45 AM, Kentucky State Police Post 1 Dispatch received a call of an injury collision near the 9 Mile Marker of the Purchase Parkway. Deputy Austin Ramage responded along with other first responders. The preliminary investigation revealed Samuel Montgomery of Union City, TN, fell asleep behind the wheel. He struck a divider on the bridge and his vehicle rolled approximately four times before stopping on the bridge. Mr. Montgomery was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for minor injuries. Deputy Ramage was assisted by Deputy Larry Jones, Mayfield / Graves County EMS and the Water Valley Fire Department.

July 17, 2024 Update on plane crash that occurred Saturday. Graves County Coroner Brad Jones released information this date on the identification of the sole pilot and occupant of the plane that crashed on Grover Hall Road. It was a crop duster type plane that was spraying a nearby field when the crash occurred.

“Juan Sebastion De Gregorio, age 41 of Rosario, Argentina . Date of death-7-13-2024, Time of Death 3:27 P.M. at 1541 Grover Hall Rd. Wingo, KY. He was currently residing in Dyersburg, TN.”, Brad Jones Graves County Coroner. The FAA and NTSB continue their investigation. The wreckage has been removed from the area and taken to an out of state location for further examination.

July 3, 2024 – Two people were arrested Wednesday afternoon after a search warrant was executed at an apartment on Windhaven Court in Mayfield. Sheriff’s detectives and deputies received information about suspected fentanyl trafficking at the location. The suspects, Christopher L. Lester and Shayla M. Harper, were found inside the apartment with numerous dosage units of fentanyl, synthetic marijuana, and marijuana.

July 2, 2024 – Christopher E. Wallace, 52, of Lynnville, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a search of his residence by Kentucky Probation and Parole officers, along with Graves County Sheriff’s detectives.

Wallace, convicted in 2023 for his involvement in a large theft ring, was found in possession of numerous firearms and ammunition. The search, conducted south of Lynnville near the Kentucky-Tennessee line, uncovered rifles, shotguns, and handguns. Wallace, who received a suspended five-year prison sentence and is prohibited from possessing firearms, was transported to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office and later to an out-of-county detention center. The Kentucky Department of Probation and Parole has placed a hold on his incarceration status pending a hearing.

On June 30, 2024, Sgt. Garret Clark responded to a report of a residential burglary in the 4000 block of KY-1684, between Dogwood and Hardmoney. Investigations revealed that a door to the residence had been kicked in, and various firearms, pieces of jewelry, and a 2015 Honda Foreman 500 four-wheeler were stolen. The burglary is believed to have occurred between noon on Friday, June 28, and 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 30. A stock photograph similar to the stolen four-wheeler is attached.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 270-247-4501. Sgt. Clark, the lead investigator, was assisted by Deputy Austin Caldwell.

As part of drug investigations in and around the Pryorsburg and Wingo areas of Graves County, 43 year old Murray J. Akers III was identified as selling crystal Methamphetamine in the area. Akers also in addition was found to have numerous outstanding warrants, one of which was a Parole Violation warrant from the Ky Parole Board.

June 28, 2024, Around 3PM sheriff’s detectives gathered in the area of Pryorsburg in an attempt to locate Akers. When Akers was observed as a passenger in a vehicle, Akers abruptly jumped from the vehicle and into a cornfield in an attempt to elude arrest. A two hour search of the area of Finks Road, Ky Hwy 1748, and Snow Lane was conducted which included the use of a drone. At approximately 6 PM, Akers was found hiding in a shed behind a residence on Snow Lane. The vehicle that Akers had jumped from was stopped by sheriff’s deputies. Methamphetamine was found in that vehicle and the driver and passenger were both arrested.

All three suspects were transported to out of county jail facilities.

June 29, 2024 – Deputy Tony Cornwell and I had the pleasure of spending some time this afternoon in Water Valley for their first Community Day in many years.

Rene Bard has worked diligently for many months to help re-establish this community as many of our small communities are facing decline. She is a godsend for us here in Graves County and the Water Valley area. She has a servant’s heart, and we are so proud of her hard work.
