A Festus man faces multiple charges stemming from a Super Bowl Sunday a single-vehicle accident, causing significant damage to a house. The Festus Police Department charged 31-year-old Matthew Henson on July 9th with one felony of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated with a minor in the vehicle, and a misdemeanor of operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner involving an accident.
The incident occurred around 7:50 pm on February 11th on Cromwell Road. The police report states Henson was driving a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup northbound when it crossed the road and struck the corner of a house, rolled over, and then hit and damaged three vehicles in the carport. The house sustained “significant” damage and remains uninhabitable. The accident caused the carport to collapse with the pickup hitting the back porch of a second residence.
If convicted, Henson faces the maximum sentence of up to seven years in prison for the felony and up to a year in jail for each misdemeanor charge. He was released on his own recognizance.
