An unidentified 34-year-old man lost his life yesterday (Tues, July 23rd) after drowning in Big River in Rockford Park in House Springs when he was overpowered by the current and pulled underwater, and never resurfaced. When authorities arrived, they were informed that the man had last been seen floating in the water before disappearing and had never resurfaced. Rescuers immediately deployed multiple boats to search the river and shoreline but his body was recovered two hours later in nearly eight feet of water near the intense current. Eight law enforcement agencies responded to the incident which comes two days after a 40-year-old woman drowned in the same river near St. Francois State Park. This was the eighth water-related rescue at this location in 2024 and the sixth drowning this year, according to the High Ridge Fire Protection District.
