A 48-year-old High Ridge man drowned in the Meramec River on Saturday (July 27th). The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the incident happened at Highway 109 in Eureka when Brian Wilson was floating on an inner tube when he “encountered some sort of medical emergency, went under water, and some bystanders helped pull him out,” according to Eureka Fire Deputy Chief William Stamberger.
His spouse, 50-year-old Angela Wilson, was moderately injured and was taken to a Fenton hospital for treatment.
It’s unclear where the Wilsons began floating, but it’s believed they started their trip on Big River.
Brian was declared dead at 1:40 pm and was taken to the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office. First responders from the Highway Patrol, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and High Ridge Fire Protection were on the scene for nearly three hours and had to use a rope pull system to transport the body from the riverbank to a vehicle access point.
