A Cape Girardeau man is behind bars for a drive-by shooting in Cape Girardeau County last week. Aaron D. Rinehart is facing several charges, including first-degree or attempt of assault, two counts of armed criminal action, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk, and unlawful use of a weapon. The probable cause statement says officers responded to an intersection that was redacted on Friday, July 26th at 3:57 pm when they were advised a black passenger car drove by with someone yelling profanities. The eyewitness said the car drove by again when they heard six gunshots with bullets “whizzing” from the direction of the vehicle. Law enforcement found four 9mm shell casings near the intersection and a bullet fragment on the ground. The officer also observed a truck with the front driver and passenger side windows shattered by what appeared to be bullet holes. Rinehart was identified as the shooter and was taken into custody.
