Last night, Show Me Live brought you live coverage of hotly-contested state and local races.
On August 6, 2024, the primary election results for various key positions in Missouri were announced. The primary election saw strong competition for positions such as the Missouri US Senate, Missouri Governor, Missouri Lieutenant Governor, Missouri Secretary of State, Missouri Treasurer, and Missouri Attorney General.
Candidates vied for the opportunity to represent and lead in these crucial roles, emphasizing their qualifications and vision for the state of Missouri. Only Democratic nominees were on the ballot for the US Senate with Lucas Kunce coming out on top. In the Governor’s race, Mike Kehoe topped the Republican vote and will face off against Crystal Quade this fall in the primary.
In a very tight Lieutenant Governor race, Republican David Wasinger secured just under 7500 votes more than Lincoln Hough, bringing the unofficial results to a 1.1% difference. Wasinger received 206,875 votes or 31.4% while Hough obtained 199,423 votes or 30.3%. No winner has been declared on the Republican side, but Richard Brown was voted the Democratic nominee with 65% of the votes.
The Missouri Secretary of State will see Republican Denny Hoskins and Democrat Barbar Phifer go head to head. Missouri Treasurer only had Republicans on the ballot with Vivek Malek scoring 41% of the votes. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey remains in his role after securing 63% of the votes.
Locally, Farmington Police Officer Jeff Crites won the Republican candidacy for St. Francois County Sheriff after a hotly-contested four-way race. Unofficial numbers show Crites securing 37.9 % of the votes with Jasen Crump coming in second at 22.88%. Current sheriff Dan Bullock and candidate Tim Harris were neck and neck with 19.77% and 19.45%, respectively.
Crites spoke to Show Me Live on-site during last night’s election coverage at the St. Francois County Elections Office. He says he’s already preparing to transition to his new position.
Current County Commissioner District 2 David Kater will serve his second term in the role. The Republican beat Michael Barton II with 61% of the votes. Kater says there are projects in the works that will keep him busy for the next four years.
