CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo (News First) – The Cape Girardeau Police Department has recovered a stolen vehicle after a chase through the downtown area yesterday (Tues, Aug 12th) morning. According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, an officer observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and crossing the center line multiple times near North Kingshighway and Themis Street. The officer activated his emergency lights and sirens after catching up to the vehicle. However, the vehicle failed to yield and continued driving more than 90 mph east on Broadway. The vehicle crashed near North Water and Independence Street where the driver and a passenger exited and began running. An officer was able to apprehend the juvenile driver and a passenger, who has been identified as 20-year-old Jakari Beal of Cape Girardeau.

Police discovered the vehicle had been stolen within the previous few hours from a neighboring city. Officers also found six firearms, two of which were reported stolen.

The Cape Girardeau Prosecutors Office formally charged Beal with a class D felony of receiving stolen property and a class A misdemeanor of resisting a lawful detention. Beal is currently being held without bond and more charges could be filed. Details regarding the juvenile have not been released.
