PADUCAH, KY (Sept. 13, 2024) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet anticipates ongoing work zone construction and long-term maintenance activities at the following locations will impact traffic in District 1 counties the week of Sept.15-21

I-24 Tennessee River Bridge Rehab and Painting at 29mm
Equipment and rigging is in the process of being installed on the eastbound Tennessee River Bridge on I-24 to continue the painting and rehab project. Lane shifts on both the eastbound and westbound lane remain in effect. KYTC continues to ask local commuters to take an alternate route via U.S. 62 between Exit 27 and Exit 40.  Message boards will be in place to notify motorists of changes as they occur. Target for project completion is Dec 1, 2024. 

Purchase Parkway Extended Work Zone 0 to 21mm
This work zone runs from the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line at Fulton and the U.S. 45/KY 80-Bypass Mayfield Exit 21 interchange in Mayfield.  It includes a 13 ft. maximum load width restriction at mile point 1.3 near Fulton.  On completion late this year, Interstate 69 will be extended along the final 21 miles of the existing parkway. The target completion date for all of the upgrades is Nov 2, 2024.

U.S. 45-Business (KY Ave) Downtown Paducah Signal Change
Traffic signals along U.S. 45-Business (Kentucky Avenue) at 5th Street and at 6th Street will be in flash mode for 90 days to allow a traffic flow study to determine how the intersections will function without a signal. The signals will flash yellow for caution along U.S. 45-Business and flash red to require stops for traffic on 5th Street and 6th Street. East-west traffic on U.S. 45-Business (Kentucky Avenue) will flow freely, while north-south traffic on the side streets will have to stop at the intersection.  Motorists should be alert for changes in traffic flow the signal alterations will bring to these intersections. 

KY 1310/Berger Rd Daytime Closures in Paducah
KY 1310 (Berger Road) in Paducah is closed to through traffic from U.S. 45 (Lone Oak Road) extending eastward to the Oak Street intersection, a distance of about 1/2 mile.  Closures are 7 a.m., to 4 p.m., to allow construction of curb, gutters and sidewalks. The contractor will maintain local access for residents and businesses, as well as access for emergency vehicles.  The target completion date for this safety project is September 15, 2024.

KY 783/Crossland Rd Extended Closure in Calloway County
An extended closure of KY 783/Crossland Road in Calloway County at the 4.19mm is to allow the West Fork Clarks River Bridge to be replaced. This closure is about 1/2 mile south of the Wiswell community.  The contractor has established a marked detour for this site via KY 1828/Midway Rd and U.S. 641.  The target completion date is Oct 1, 2024.

KY 2603/Vanzora Rd at Soldier Creek Bridge in Marshall County
A new bridge is being constructed over Soldier Creek along KY 2603/Vanzora Road at 1.17mm in Marshall County. The roadway is closed. The target completion date is Oct 1, 2024.

KY 1485/Bellville Rd Closed in Southern Graves County
KY 1485/Bellville Road in Graves County is closed at the Terrapin Creek Bridge near the 2mm – about two miles north of the KY-TN State Line.  An inspection team found deterioration of the bridge substructure. The bridge is closed to all traffic until further notice.  There is no marked detour.  KY 1485/Bellville Road connects to Boydsville Road at the state line. Engineers are determining if the bridge can be repaired or should be replaced.

KY 295 Closed at Lyon-Crittenden County Line
KY 295 is closed at Lyon County mile point 9.419 and Crittenden County mile point 0.0 at the Livingston Creek Bridge due to structural issues on the bridge. This is at the Crittenden-Lyon County Line. Signs and barricades are posted.  Engineers anticipate ongoing environmental and design work will progress to allow plans for a new bridge to be ready for bidding in late summer or early fall with construction to follow.  Watch for updates.

KY 780 in Hickman County Closed at Bayou de Chien Bridge
KY 780 is closed at mile point 3.818 due to substructure deterioration on the Bayou de Chien Bridge between U.S. 51 and Martin Road.  This is on the lower end of KY 780 West of U.S. 51.  The bridge will remain closed until engineers can develop a repair plan.  Motorists may self-detour via the north end of KY 780 to U.S. 51 (South Washington St) at the south edge of Clinton.

KY 80 in Marshall County near Kenlake State Resort Park
A contractor began a project to pave two miles of KY 80 from the Calloway-Marshall County line to U.S. 68 (1.937 mm). Crews began milling the roadway on Friday with paving to begin on Monday. The anticipated completion date Oct. 4, 2024.

High-Friction Surface Being Applied to Four Roads
A contractor will be applying a high-friction treatment to four different roads in District 1, beginning with the ramp from U.S. 60 (Hinkleville Road) to Interstate 24 eastbound in Paducah on Monday. The ramp will be blocked from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. Other routes on the project are:
• U.S. 60 (Clarks River Road) in McCracken County at Jim R. Road — Sept. 18 & 19
• U.S. 62 westbound in Eddyville at the intersection of U.S. 641 and KY 3305. — Sept. 20 & 21
• U.S. 68 in Cadiz at Broadbent Blvd. — Sept. 23 & 24

Please be alert and use extra caution anytime you encounter a work zone.  Slow down and put down your cell phone.  Watch for flaggers and pay attention to the directions they provide to guide you safely on your way.  All work is scheduled on a weather-permitting basis.
