LAS CRUCES, NM (News First) – The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks football nearly pulled off a road win on Saturday night in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Redhawks were leading New Mexico State after the first quarter and after the third quarter but SEMO let the game slip away from them, losing to the Aggies 23-16. The score at the half was 10-10. Redhawks quarterback Paxton DeLaurent was 27-45, good for 295 yards of passing. He had one touchdown pass and threw one interception. Southeast Missouri State’s leading wide receiver was Dorian Anderson who caught six passes for 115 yards, plus a touchdown.
New Mexico State, now 1-0, shut SEMO’s running game as the Redhawks ran for just 57 yards. Aggies running back Seth McGowan got the game-winning score on a 3-yard run with just a minute and 57 seconds left in the game. SEMO falls to 1-1 and will return to the football field next Saturday night at Houck Stadium in Cape Girardeau when they face the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks who lost their opener on Saturday to Kansas State.
