FRANKFORT, Ky -The U.S. 60 Smithland Bridge project in Livingston County has won the America’s Transportation Awards for “Best Use of IT and Innovation” in a regional competition among Mid-American states! The 1930’s bridge was replaced with a new, safer structure featuring wider lanes and shoulders. This innovative project was completed by building the 700 ft. long truss at the riverport and floating it down the Cumberland River on a barge! This approach led to minimal disruption to river traffic and the new bridge provides smoother commutes, safer passages for vessels, and improved access for farmers. Congrats to everyone involved in this award-winning achievement!
