FARMINGTON/BONNE TERRE/POTOSI, Mo (News First) – The Farmington, North County, and Potosi school districts each received separate violent threats this week.
In a note to parents of North County students on Thursday (Sept 5th), administrators stated they received a report of a possible threat directed towards staff and students on the North County Middle School campus at the end of the day. No other details were revealed and no other buildings or district facilities were included in the report. The district contacted law enforcement which is investigating the threat.
Also on Thursday, the Potosi district shared a letter about a student who commented on having a gun in his backpack but was only joking. The school’s resource office immediately intervened, and the student was taken into custody for further evaluation. No weapons were found and none of the students or staff were in danger at any time.
On Friday (Sept 6th), Farmington administrators expressed the same concern after discovering a potential threat after 8 am to Lincoln Intermediate which had been posted on TikTok. The student was identified and escorted to the office for further investigation. Law enforcement and educators quickly determined there was no imminent threat to the safety of anyone within the district.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to speak to their children about the importance of choosing their words.
The threats followed a school shooting in Georgia that left two students and two teachers dead on Wednesday. The 14-year-old shooter and his father were arrested and appeared in court on Friday. The father could face life in prison or the death penalty while the juvenile could face a maximum of life in prison due to his age.
