BARNHART, Mo (News First) – One man is dead and another injured following a two-vehicle accident early Friday morning in Jefferson County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Highway 67 northbound at I-55 when a Chrysler Crossfire driven by 40-year-old James M. Nelson of Barnhart was traveling northbound on 67 in lane one and Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer driven by 56-year-old Michael Russel Jr. of Arnold was also heading northbound but in lane 2.
Nelson’s car crossed the centerline when the right front of his car struck the left side of the tractor-trailer. The car then crossed over lane one and struck a concrete barrier. Nelson was taken to Mercy Hospital Jefferson where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Evans. 40-year-old Michael W. Coleman of Desoto was also a passenger of Nelson’s. Coleman was also taken to the hospital in Crystal City for treatment of his moderate injuries.
