SHANNON COUNTY, Mo (News First) – A tour bus, carrying nearly 50 people, was involved in a two-vehicle accident early Monday evening in Shannon County. According to a Shannon County First Responders Facebook post from Randy Hobbs, the captain of the Winona Volunteer Fire Department, the accident happened on eastbound Highway 60. A pickup truck was also involved but no details on the accident were given as News First awaits the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Hobbs says 48 tourists were on that tour bus and there were some injuries but we are still unsure how many were injured.
Hobbs did say in his post that it was a nightmare situation for the small volunteer fire department but he’s proud of how his department handled the it, with professionalism and confidence. Hobbs says patients were triaged to prioritize care and all helping out gave everything they had. He also says he was proud of the way fellow citizens and businesses helped out. The Winona School District provided buses to carry people to the school to await new transportation. Some churches also brought their buses to help out. He also thanked Baker’s Towing & Auto Salvage, Mercy Emergency Medical Services, and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
