BILOXI, Mi. (News First) – Torrential rainfall is possible through the area as Hurricane Francine hits the Gulf Coast. The storm has intensified and is expected to hit New Orleans later today (Wed, Sept 11th), bringing a swathe of wet weather our way. Matt McClain is in Biloxi, Mississippi with this report.
Here in Biloxi, Mississippi, where I’m standing right now, that’s expected to be up to under six feet of water in the coming hours. This is as Frances is now churning toward the Louisiana coast and indirectly here in Mississippi. Storm surge warnings are now in effect for where I’m standing and tropical storm warnings and flood watches beyond.
Concerning how much rain Frances is expected to bring back home for those of you in Missouri, Illinois, and beyond in Kentucky and Tennessee, up to four inches of rain are now expected across western Kentucky, northwest Tennessee, and the Missouri Bootheel. Up to three inches of rain in Poplar Bluff, Sikeston, Cape Girardeau, and portions of southern Illinois. About an inch and a half to two inches from Farmington through Piedmont, and then even less as you migrate north and west of the Farmington area in the rest of our listening area.
The storm surge is only hours away.
