PADUCAH, Ky. (September 11, 2024) — Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 troopers have arrested a Tennessee man following a multi-county pursuit on Interstate 24. The chase, which spanned Lyon, Livingston, Marshall, and McCracken counties, briefly closed the westbound lanes of I-24. The suspect was apprehended near the 17-mile marker.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. CT, Trooper Wesley Thompson with KSP Post 1 spotted a white 2022 Dodge Durango traveling westbound on I-24 at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour near the 42-mile marker. When Thompson attempted a traffic stop, the driver failed to pull over and continued speeding. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed, eventually bringing the vehicle to a stop at around the 17-mile marker. The driver then refused to exit the vehicle as ordered.
The driver exhibited erratic behavior while refusing to comply with commands. KSP requested additional resources, including an armored vehicle from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, to ensure a safe resolution. The westbound lanes of I-24 were briefly closed during this period. Using the armored vehicle, troopers were able to take the driver into custody without further incident.
The driver, Evin Rion, 29, of Lebanon, Tennessee, was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation due to suspected intoxication. Rion faces charges of fleeing or evading police in the first degree, wanton endangerment, DUI (second offense), and several traffic violations. He remains in the hospital for treatment.
KSP extends thanks to all agencies involved, including the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and Mercy EMS.
