VIBURNUM, Mo. (News First) – Yesterday (Wednesday) was the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. Several communities held remembrance ceremonies or other related events. In all, nearly 3,000 people died that day when hijacked planes crashed through the World Trade Center Towers, the Pentagon and a lonely field in Pennsylvania. Many of the dead were first responders who risked their lives, to save those stuck in those two towers before they both eventually came crashing down. In Viburnum, they had a First Responders Parade through the streets of town with fire, ambulance and police personnel participating. News 1st spoke to Quad County Fire Protection District Chief Richard Gillam about the day of remembrance.
There was a nice crowd waiting for all the parade participants at the Quad County Firehouse in Viburnum. Besides the Quad County Fire Protection District showing off their various fire trucks, members of the Iron County Ambulance District and the Viburnum Police Department took part in the 9/11 Remembrance Parade.
